The 'Guinness' Foden was released as part of a Guinness promotion in June 1989.
Originally the (Y8-5) Yorkshire Steam Wagon had been selected and some factory pre-production models with riveted bases have found their way onto the collector market. Arthur Guinness Son & Company (Great Britain) Ltd purchased 12,000 Y27 models at 1.95 pounds each from Matchbox Toys Ltd in March 1989. In July Matchbox Toys released the (Y27-1) 'Guiness' Foden model to all of the major markets.
It had an all new load of 5 barrels mounted on a diecast load bed. The body tools were modified to provide two holes in the floor of the lorry body to which the false floor, and the barrels were fitted.
The total production run was 98,160.
